Kira Plastinina Is Ba-aack, This Time With A More "Mature" Collection Inspired By The '70s, '80s, AND '90s
Remember Kira Plastinina, the Russian heiress who flash-opened thirteen stores in the United States that peddled offensively glittery bubble skirts and graphic shirts to tween shoppers (and subsequent closed of all but one of her stores, leaving her company a debt of $54.4 million)? She's back, and so is the inexplicably fawning media. WWD covered the launch of "the design prodigy"'s new line, Lublu, (meaning "I Love" in Russian). Now 18, Plastinina is switching strategies and is selling her line wholesale to various boutiques, which surprisingly shows much sharper business acumen—whether it's on her own accord, we won't say. This time around, she's replacing those pink bubble skirts with "sophisticated silhouettes decorated with heavily beaded crosses." Perhaps the new Ed Hardy look will actually be successful, seeing as Kira's attempting to cover all her basics. Says the designer, "I had a show for Lublu...during Moscow Fashion Week," she said. "The collection is inspired by the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties." '70s, '80s, and '90s? Who's ready for bell bottoms, Madonna catsuits, and floral dresses. We know we aren't. (WWD)
