Meri Canatan's Monochrome Collage Photography Has Us Enchanted
Turkish artist Meri Canatan has a unique approach to portraying her subjects. Her eerily pretty photographs of cherubic girls in whimsical dresses, all in stark contrast with dark backdrops, are made further enchanting by the cut-out paper texture applied to their faces and attire. Like an awkward-but-mesmerizing mismatched magazine page collage, her subjects' soft faces are punctuated by geometric shapes. The textures include outdoor scenery, dining room furniture, and partial portraits that are both out of place and seamlessly applied like post-futuristic war paint. Canatan's work looks as if it could have fallen from the pages of Dazed Magazine. (Trendland)
